Mrs. Forsyth's Blog 10/22/17

In reading, I'm happy to report that Book Clubs and Reading Contracts are in full swing!  Students are learning to read themselves "awake".  They are practicing predicting and envisioning what's happening in the text.

In writing we're finishing up our narrative, true stories.  Students are working to set their goals
around the structure and organization of their writing.  We've learned so much about each other through our many "scar stories" and experiences.  I'll share more about these during the November conferences.

We're using an app called Spelling City to help us practice our spelling words.
In math we're fully finished with unit 1 and have begun unit 2 which focuses on multiplication and two step number stories.
This week we continued our exploration of forces and motion.  Our focus has been on the push and pull forces found in magnetism.  Later this week we'll discuss other forces like gravity and friction.

Below you'll see some photos from our Mystery Science activity which was "What Makes Bridges So Strong?" Partners worked to design and build a bridge that could hold varying numbers of pennies and other items.
