Mrs. Forsyth's Classroom Blog 10/6

Well, today marks a special time for our class, we're celebrating our ability to work together as a team...
-make learning fun
-help one another
-be open to growing
-take risks
Many of our routines are in place and we've been able to meet our learning targets!

This week we began using Spelling City to practice our spelling words.  Soon we'll be able to practice our words at home using games like Word Finder.  We also used Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check as another way to learn our new spelling list.

We're reaching our math targets:
-rounding to the nearest 10 and 100
-using arrays and pictures to help us solve multiplication and division facts
-telling time to the nearest minute and solving elapsed time

We're learning to type using an app called Tap Typing.  We took a test to see how fast we could type.

In science we tried to measure the force of a magnet using a balance and metal washers.  Ask your child to tell you about it.

Reading celebration!
For Pajama day we were "flashlight readers".  Off went the lights and we pulled the shades for some buddy reading with our flashlights. We're beginning to learn more about characters and their traits.  Next week we'll begin buddy reading and book clubs!

This week we set goals for our writing and practiced adding dialogue and action.

Next week we'll choose a story to publish and our final copies will be on display at the Thomas Memorial Library in late October!
