We have begun our study of fairy tales, fables and myths.

Fairy Tales Unit: Reading and Writing

Learning Targets:
1.  Students will be able to describe characters in a story (traits, motivations and feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

2. Students will be able to recount stories including fables, folktales and myths from diverse cultures and determine the central message, lesson or moral and explain how it's conveyed through key details.
A comparison of the classic tale Cinderella and a modern day adaptation Prince Cinders by Babette Cole.
Students are learning to identify parts of a fairy tale and compare characters, setting and plot.

Reading time: Students are analyzing characters and identifying their physical and personality traits.
Readers also collect evidence from the text to support these traits.

Our class created fairy tale vocabulary boards and are using these to sort vocabulary into various categories.
These boards will also be used by students to collect new vocabulary when reading.
